A Bulgarian Airlines regular flight from Sofia to Tel Aviv is hijacked by armed Islamic militants. The Bulgarian president, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and the Israeli ambassador to Bulgaria are on board. One of the hijackers rushes into the cockpit, kills the co-pilot and takes control of the aircraft. The intention is to crash the plane into the nuclear plant near the town of Kozloduy and thus create a nuclear disaster and chaos in the region and around the world. The responsibility to prevent this tragedy falls on the ex-Special Forces officer Julian Mihailov who happens to be on board.
On September 11, 2001, less than two years after the novel’s publication, the biggest terrorist attack to-date took place under similar circumstances.
